SWM: Top Channel League swimmers mark their territory

Maelyn Adornetto and Dos Pueblos will be defending its Channel League team title on Thursday.

The Channel League girls swimming finals are set after Tuesday’s Prelims at Dos Pueblos High School.

The Finals are Thursday at Dos Pueblos, with the boys finalists being decided in Wednesday’s prelims.

Several swimmers will be threats to win multiple events on Thursday.

Dos Pueblos’ Janelle Nguyen will be the top seed in the individual medley and the second seed in the 500 freestyle. Fellow Charger Maelyn Adornetto was tops in the 100 breaststroke and 4th in the IM. The Dos Pueblos seniors like Nguyen have never lost the team competition at the league meet.

San Marcos’ Olivia Smith posted the top time in the 100 butterfly and was second to Nguyen in the 200 IM. Dasha Depew gives the Royals another shot at a league title in the 200 (1st) and the 500 free (3rd).

Depew will be going head-to-head with Ventura’s Brigid McNally, who was first in the 500 free and third in the 200.

Santa Barbara High’s Kelsey O’Brien won the 50-meter freestyle sprint and came in behind teammate Dana Sloan (1st) and Dos Pueblos’ Shannon Cleary in the 100 free.

O’Brien and Nguyen both won two individual titles at last year’s league championships.
