SWM: Dos Pueblos sweeps dual meet with Dons

Alex Valente turned in an impressive third leg of the 400 relay and won two individual events, leading the Dos Pueblos boys swim team to 112-74 victory over Santa Barbara in a Channel League dual meet at the Elings Aquatic Center on Thursday.

The Dos Pueblos girls also were victorious over their crosstown rivals, winning by a score of 100-86. Janelle Nguyen and Maelyn Adornetto each won two events for the Chargers.

Santa Barbara’s Kelsey O’Brien continued her strong swimming in the sprints. The UCLA-bound water polo player won the 50 freestyle in 25.06 and took the 100 free in 54.92.

The UNLV-bound Nguyen dominated in the 200 freestyle, winning in 1:54.73, more than four seconds ahead of second place. She also pulled away in the 100 butterfly and won in 58.52. She swam 53.85 in her anchor leg of the Chargers’ winning 400 free relay.

Adornetto was the class of the field in the 200 individual medley, winning by nearly nine seconds in 2:14.60. Her second race, the 100 breast, was closer. She won in 1:08.44. She also swam on a winning 200 free relay team.

Valente showed that he had plenty in the tank in the last race of the meet. His leg of 49.35 enabled DP to open up a close race in the 400 free relay. The Chargers clocked 3:45.

Valente, a sophomore, captured the 100 fly in 51.32 and the 100 backstroke in 54.88.

Sophomore Walker Bell had a good meet, running away with the 200 IM (1:59.83) and 500 free (4:50.50). He also swam a strong second leg on the 400 free relay (50.13), opening some distance for the Chargers.

Blake Parrish won the 100 breast (1:01.13) and Grant Schroeder took the 100 free (46.69). Lester Wright posted a CIF Division 1 automatic qualifying score of 302.08 to win the diving.

Other winners for the Santa Barbara boys were Alex Roderick in the 200 free (1:52.43) and Tarry Burkhardt in the 50 free (22.31).

For the Santa Barbara girls, Sierra McNeel won the 100 back (1:04.23), the 200 free relay of Sophie Trabucco, Maddie Trabucco, Dana Sloan and O’Brien came in first (1:42.04) and Claire Lindstrom won diving (184.20 points).

Other Dos Pueblos winners in the girls meet were the 200 medley relay team of Courtney Nuttall, Adornetto, Madison Faulkner and Nicole Berari in 1:54.9, Reagan Eickert in the 500 free (5:21.95) and the 400 free relay team of Cleary, Eickert, Katie Evans and Nguyen in 3:41.79.
