Shelby Wisdom homered in the bottom of the 4th inning and Alex Pingree pitched a shutout to lead UC Santa Barbara over UC Davis, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. UCSB takes two out of three in the series and improve their record to 25-16 while UC Davis falls to 17-21.
Pingree went the distance for the Gauchos and only allowed five hits while striking out three and giving up one walk. In back-to-back days she has shutout UC Davis and it marks her sixth shutout of the year. The freshman pitcher improves her record to 6-2 and her team leading ERA lowers down to 1.65. The complete game is her fifth on the season.
While Pingree was dominating on the mound, the Gauchos would need a spark to come on the offensive end.
With one out in the bottom of the 4th, Wisdom stepped up to the plate and hit a shot over the left field fence to give UCSB a 1-0 lead. For Wisdom, the homerun is her sixth of the year and gives her a team-high 33 RBI’s.
Arianna Palomares had a productive day at the plate going 1-for-2 with a walk and Jessica Tetzlaff also singled and had a sac bunt on the day. Palomares is now batting a team high .336.
UCSB will be back in action when they hit the road to face Cal Poly this Wednesday at 3pm.
