La Reina’s Dani and Marissa Marietta caused problems for Carpinteria’s softball team on Tuesday as the Regents defeated the Warriors 2-1 in a Tri-Valley League game.
Dani Marietta struck out 16 batters in seven innings and Marissa Marietta delivered the decisive blow with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning.
Carpinteria’s Catalina Maldonado struck out eight batters in her seven innings. Maldonado led the Warriors at the plate with three hits including a double. Paulina Barbosa singled home Maldonado for the Warriors’ one run in the bottom of the seventh.
The game remained scoreless through the first six innings in a pitchers duel. The Warriors outhit the Regents 6-4.
The Warriors face Santa Clara on Thursday.
