Hancock swept SBCC in two completely different softball games on Thursday, winning 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel and then outslugging the Vaqueros 15-5 in a five-inning game at Santa Maria.
Nathalia Powell was the winner in both WSC Gold Division games, holding the Vaqueros (11-22, 6-6) to five hits in each contest. Alex Abbott was the hard-luck loser in the opener after tossing a four-hitter with five strikeouts.
The Bulldogs (19-11, 9-4) scored their only run on an inside-the-park homer by Kristine Ramos in the fourth.
SBCC jumped to a 4-0 lead in the second game, thanks to a three-run triple by Natalie Orosco. But Hancock roared back with 10 runs in the bottom of the first. The Bulldogs had six hits in the inning, including a three-run homer by Michaela Valencia, and sent 14 batters to the plate.
Amanda Caras hit her first homer for the Vaqueros with a solo shot in the third.
SBCC hosts Cuesta on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
