Veronika Gulvin struck out 14 batters on the way to a 6-0 shutout for Dos Pueblos’ softball team on Tuesday, as the Chargers defeated Buena in a Channel League game.
The Chargers and Bulldogs are now tied in first place with identical 4-1 records. The two teams play their final matchup of the season on Thursday at Buena.
Gulvin scattered five hits and two walks. The sophomore pitcher and the Dos Pueblos defense have posted eight shutouts in their past 10 games. In that time, DP (12-1-1) has outscored its opponents 51-4.
Dos Pueblos is the only team to have been able to shut out the Bulldogs this season.
Dos Pueblos tallied two runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings on the way to victory. Sam Sander led the offense with a pair of hits and three RBI.
