Santa Barbara High’s Christina Garcia singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning of Tuesday’s 4-3 victory over San Marcos.
Garcia drove home Madison Dochterman and Shai Rodriguez with the tying and winning run.
San Marcos’ Hannah Ball had given the Royals a 3-2 lead in the top half of the eighth with a solo home run.
Santa Barbara was forced to rally twice with its back up against the wall. The Dons trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the seventh before scoring their first two runs to tie the game and force extra innings. The only hit in that inning was an RBI single by Grace Apostolopolous.
“Today’s softball game at Santa Barbara High School was a cross town rivalry that had everything a fan could ask for,” reported Dons head coach Victor Alvarez.
San Marcos scored its first two runs on singles by Stephanie Swann, Kristen Berlo and Ball.
