San Marcos’ Caroline Vance has been named High School Runner of the Month.
The senior captain had a special month besides starting her final track & field season of her prep career with quality results. Vance recently accepted a scholarship to attend the University of Southern California.
Soon after, the Royals’ track & field team learned that they were the All-Academic CIF Champions for the Southern Section.
“Caroline is one of those athletes that is the heart and soul of the team. She is selfless, dedicated and hardworking,” says Royals head coach Marilyn Hantgin.
“She is willing to run any event our team needs and has shown leadership throughout her 4 years on the track team. As a teacher, coach, and mother I am extremely proud of Caroline and all of her accomplishments. I am honored to have been apart of her high school career.”
Caroline’s leadership is matched by her athleticism. She is a four-year varsity member of the track & field team. While her strengths are the long and triple jump, Vance also runs the third leg of the Royals’ 4×100 relay this year. She has also competed in the 100-meter sprint.
“It is not very often you come across an athlete like Caroline. I know Caroline will continue to excel in college and beyond. I know all of her teammates and coaches admire and respect, and will miss her greatly.”
