SBCC’s Blake McPherson fired a 1-under 71 to tie for third place on Monday in the eighth WSC golf meet at Oakmont CC in Glendale.
Canyons (48-0) stayed perfect in conference play with a 5-over 365. SBCC was second at 372, followed by Glendale at 385.
The 71 was a season best for McPherson, a freshman from Taft High.
Steven Lam added a 73 for the Vaqueros (38-10, 2nd in WSC) and Charlie Holyoke shot 75.
“The greens were tough and it was a difficult course,“ said coach Chuck Melendez. “I‘m proud of the way we played since most of our guys had never seen the course. Slowly but surely, we‘re closing the gap on Canyons.”
The 36-hole WSC Finals (meets 9 and 10) will be held on Monday at Soule Park in Ojai.
