Johnny Hogan fired a season-best, 1-under 71 on Wednesday, leading SBCC to second place in the Ventura Invitational men’s golf tournament at Soule Park GC in Ojai.
Hogan, a freshman from Santa Ynez High, had six birdies. Blake McPherson shot 72 and Brett Patton carded a 73 for the Vaqueros, who lost by four strokes to the tourney champion, Ventura (363-367). Glendale was third at 381.
Chad McLay of Ventura was the medalist at 69. Santa Barbara’s six players were all between 71 and 77.
“The conditions were great but we still didn’t quite put everything together,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We didn’t finish that well and our guys were not satisfied. This was a good tune-up for the WSC Finals (36-hole event), which will be held at Soule Park in a couple of weeks.”
The Vaqueros will compete in WSC No. 8 on Monday at Oakmont CC in Glendale.
