Carpinteria pulled off some late-game heroics and beat Santa Paula 4-3 in a Frontier League baseball game on Tuesday.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the seven, the Warriors scored four runs to win the game.
Carpinteria improves to 7-8 and 5-3 in league. Santa Paula is 8-8, 5-3
Derrick Moore led off the seventh for the Warriors with a double. After a 10-pitch at bat, Duncan Gordon walked, bringing the tying run to the plate in David Olvera. He hit a one-out, two-run double to left to score pinch runner Haley Van Stein and Gordon.
Santa Paula starter Ramiro Avila, who held the Warriors to one hit in six innings, was replaced by Tony Contreras. Mo Sanchez drew a walk from Contreras and Nick Walker singled to drive in Olvera to tie the score at 3-3.
Anthony Rodriguez hit a ground ball that was misplayed, allowing Sanchez to cross the plate with the winning run.
Max Damron went the distance on the mound for the Warriors to pick up the win.
“It was a much needed win,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “Important toward league standings but more important for morale and team chemistry. Our boys have been working hard for each other and doing as many little things right as they can. They deserve a reward. We need to continue down the same path with the same hunger for success.”
