John Salda drove home Nolan Tooley for the winning run in Friday’s 8-7 Tri-Valley League win over Oak Park for Bishop Diego.
The Cardinals took a 7-0 lead before Oak Park rallied to tie with a seven-run fourth inning. Salda’s game-winning hit came in the top of the sixth inning.
Jack Gregson fought threw the rocky fourth inning to record a complete-game victory on the mound. Gregson was also one of three Cardinals to go 3-for-4 at the plate.
One of Gregson’s hits was a solo home run in the first inning. Oak Park’s Nolan Shapiro also launched a home run in the game.
Salda and Tooley were the other Bishop players having 3-for-4 days. On defense, Tooley made a tough running catch in center field to end the game with a runner on second base.
Gregson, Salda, Tooley and Aidan Williams collected 11 of the Cardinals’ 12 hits. Five of them were for extra bases.
“They did a great job today,” said Cardinals assistant Kai Solin.
The victory gives Bishop Diego a 4-2 record in league play going into their bye week. The Cardinals will keep busy with non-league games at home on Thursday and Friday.
