Things couldn’t have gone much better for Cate’s baseball team in its Condor League opener on Wednesday as the Rams routed the preseason favorites in a 14-4 win over Dunn.
“This was by far the best game we played all season against the best team we’ve played all season,” said Rams assistant coach Dave Soto.
Dunn is currently the second-ranked team in Division 7.
Cate (8-1, 1-0) was backed by home runs from Zach Ell and Ryan Baird. Ell drove in four runs total and Humza Khurshid kept the ball rolling with a 3-for-4 day.
Cate scored its 14 runs on 13 hits
“Offensively, we kind of had been waiting awhile to explode,” Soto said.
The Rams play rival Thacher in their next game on Saturday.
