Santa Barbara High was held to two infield hits and suffered a 3-1 loss to perennial L.A. City Section baseball power Chatsworth in the final game of the Chatsworth Tournament on Saturday.
Josh Garcia showed great control in throwing a complete game for the Chancellors. He didn’t walk a batter and allowed an unearned run in the fifth inning.
“We’ve been relying lately on pitching and defense to eke out close wins,” Santa Barbara assistant coach Mike Cooney said. “Today, though, Chatsworth’s pitcher was near-perfect and we were fortunate to score at all.”
Four Santa Barbara pitchers (Gabe Grandcolas, Jeff Paschke, Conner McManigal and Evan Smith) combined to limit Chatsworth to four hits. But the Chancellors (15-8) scored singles runs in the first and second on squeeze bunts and added a third in the fifth inning on a triple by Riley Conlan.
The Dons (12-6) return to Channel League action on Tuesday at home against Buena.
