Santa Clara scored four runs in the fifth inning and held off Carpinteria 4-3 in a Frontier League baseball game on Friday in Oxnard.
The Saints swept the series against the Warriors and matched their league record at 4-3.
Carpinteria got a good pitching performance from Marcus Hutchinson. He allowed five hits but was hurt by miscues on defense.
Carpinteria (6-8) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth. A successful drag bunt by David Olvera scored Max Damron for the run.
Santa Clara (5-7) responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the sixth, Carpinteria scored two runs on a walk to Anthony Rodriguez and hits by Hutchinson and Derrick Moore.
“We need to build on the good plays, follow our leaders and overcome the pressure,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “There is a lot of season left. We just need to keep grinding.”
