BB: Carpinteria puts Villanova away in seventh


 

Carpinteria’s defense turned three double plays, and the Warriors erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to defeat Villanova 8-2 in a Frontier League baseball game on Wednesday.

Kevin Stein hit a two-run single in the seventh to expand a 3-2 Carpinteria lead. Derrick Moore added and RBI single and Haley Van Stein scored the final run on a wild pitch.

Anthony Rodriguez gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead in the second inning with a two-out single. Villanova scored twice in the fourth.

Max Damron battle through four innings to pick up the win. He struck out six, walked five and gave up four hits. Mo Sanchez pitched the last three innings and gave up two hits while striking out three.

Carpinteria improves to 6-4 in league and 8-9 overall. Villanova is 0-10, 2-10.
