World-Record holder and reigning Olympic Gold Medalist Ashton Eaton is spending five weeks in Santa Barbara this spring training at Westmont College.
Eaton spent a few minutes with the media on Tuesday at a Youth Clinic organized by the locally-based Women’s Athletic Performance Foundation. The decathlete will be making another public appearance next weekend at the Sam Adams Combined Events Invitational at Westmont.
Also there working with the kids were three Olympic hopefuls in the heptathlon that receive support from WAPF, one of them UCSB record-holder Barbara Nwaba. Members of the Wisconsin Badgers track & field team added to the mix of athletes working with the youths, who numbered around 50. They mostly came from the Boys & Girls Club, Club West and SBAA.
Eaton led a stretching session before the group broke up to practice different events. Eaton spent time with the long jumpers, giving pointers while raking the sand between jumps.
This video includes interviews with Eaton, Nwaba and WAPF Director Josh Priester.
