It was a record-breaking day for the Dos Pueblos track and field team at the Don Green Invitational on Saturday.
The Chargers set meet records in six events, led by double record-holders and state champions Bryan Fernandez and Stamatia Scarvelis.
Fernandez’s records were in the 1600 in 4:21.73 and the 3200 in 9:31.15. His 3200 mark bested the previous record set by teammate Sergey Sushchikh (9:34.24) in 2011. Fernandez won a CIF cross county state title in the fall.
Max Davis of DP took second in the 3200 in 9:37.09.
Scarvelis, the reigning state girls shot put champion, won Saturday’s meet with a state-leading throw of 49-10.5. She threw 149-0 to win the discus. The mark is a meet and DP school record. Her throws shattered the previous marks set by Ventura’s Alex Morgan in 2011 (42-8, 134-3).
Also setting meet records and taking top honors were Sydney Eilbacher in the girls pole vault (11-0) and Niema Poindexter in the triple jump (35-6.25). Poindexter also won the 200 meters in 26.74.
Emma Redick captured the 400 in 60.85 and Addi Zerrenner won the 800 in 2:27.09.
Zerrenner finished second in the 1600 and 3200 behind state champion Sarah Baxter of Simi Valley. Her 1600 time was 5:21.20 and she ran 11:28.62 in the 3200. Baxter’s times were 5:10.45 and 10:35.93.
