Carpinteria’s boys tennis team picked up its second win of the season on Tuesday in an 11-7 non-league victory over Channel Islands.
Ben Murray and Jonathan Cleek swept three sets each in singles play for the Warriors, losing only three games each. It was Cleek’s first appearance of the season in the singles lineup.
“He played awesome,” said Warriors head coach Charles Bryant. “He showed a lot of patience and did a great job coming to the net to close out points. Ben was his usual steady self and he did a great job of moving his opponents around the court.”
Another highlight for the Warriors was the newly matched duo of Collin Nathanson and Ricky Zermeno. The pair won all three sets playing together for the first time.
On Monday, the Warriors lost out to Pacifica 14-4 in a non-league match.
The two teams were tied 3-3 after the first round before the Tritons turned it up a notch.
Ben Murray in singles, and the doubles teams of Jonathan Cleek/Collin Nathanson and Sean Welty/Ricky Zermeno, won sets in the first round.
“Being a relatively new team, I was pleased to see how the boys competed and am hoping they will be able to
continue their strong efforts in the next few matches,” Bryant said.
The Warriors open Tri-Valley League play on Thursday against Oaks Christian.
