Top-ranked Ventura held off SBCC 6-3 in a WSC men’s tennis match on Friday at Pershing Park after the Vaqueros lost their top player to injury.
Former Santa Barbara High star Logan Liddell had to retire at the outset of his No. 1 match with Vitor Mendes. Marius Moelsgaard and Soufiane El Mhamdi posted wins at Nos. 5 and 6. Fabian Lundberg dropped a tough three-setter at No. 3, losing 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
Moelsgaard/Lundberg won their doubles set 8-5 to pull the Vaqueros within a point at 4-3. But Ventura prevailed in the other two doubles.
The Vaqueros (5-4, 3-2 WSC), olaying their third match in four days, suffered their first home loss in five matches. Ventura improved to 8-0 and 5-0.
SBCC travels to L.A. Pierce on Tuesday.
