FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Day two of the Pac-12 Championships came to a close Monday night at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. For UC Santa Barbara the day was highlighted by their fifth place finish in the 200 free relay and Wade Allen’s eight overall finish in the 50 free.
UCSB slipped in the standings to fall to seventh place with 97 points, ahead of only Cal Poly who has 66. Cal remains out on top with Stanford close behind. USC is third with a lot of distance between fourth place Arizona.
In the first event of the day, the 500 free, the Gauchos’ Andrew Barmann set a season-best time of 4:28.76. He finished 19th overall after qualifying for the ‘C’ final.
In the 200 IM Andy Castilleja qualified for the ‘C’ final with his season-best time coming in the preliminary heat at 1:50.21. Overall he would finish 23rd with a time of 1:50.53.
In the 50 free, the Gauchos had a qualifier for each final. Wade Allen qualified for the ‘A’ final with his season-best 19.82. Ryan Hanni would advance to the ‘B’ final and Chase Lemley made it to the ‘C’ final. Allen finished eighth overall in the event by swimming a 20.00 in the finals. Hanni finished 13th with his season-best time of 21.10 and Lemley came in 24th after another season-best time 20.74. Hanni and Allen’s times were both NCAA ‘B’ standards.
UCSB’s best overall finish for the day came in the 200 free relay. Their relay team of Hanni, Allen, Lemley andTim Freeman took a fifth place finish after they swam a time of 1:19.07 which is an NCAA ‘B’ standard time as well as a season-best.
Erich Brodbeck had the team-high score in the men’s one-meter diving competition. He posted a score of 210.85 which was good for 19th overall.
Tuesday will have a bevy of events including the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and the three-meter dives.
