Cat Maldonado had a perfect game for six innings before giving up two hits and a run, but Carpinteria held on to beat Cabrillo 2-1 at the Santa Ynez softball tournament on Saturday.
Erin Saito doubled in a run and Maldonado had an RBI single to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
In its first game, Carpinteria lost to Santa Paula 3-1, committing two runs in the fourth that allowed the Cardinals to score all their runs.
“Cat pitched well enough to run, but we let her down on defense,” said coach Henry Gonzalez.
The Warriors (1-1) play at Bishop Diego on Thursday.
