SBCC split two softball games on Saturday at the Golden West Invitational, falling to Orange Coast 5-1 and beating Oxnard 10-2 behind a spectacular performance by Alex Abbott.
Abbott tossed a two-hitter in the second game of the consolation round at Huntington Beach. She struck out four and went 3-3 at the plate with two doubles.
Shannon Kelly belted a three-run homer over the left-field fence during a five-run second inning by the Vaqueros (3-10). Abbott had a two-run double in a four-run fourth inning.
Danielle DeCastro went 2-3 with two runs and Kiersty Briner stole three bases and scored twice for SBCC, which had a season-high 12 hits.
In the Orange Coast game, DeCastro, Victoria Lucido, Amanda Caras all had two hits. Kelly had an RBI single in the sixth.
The Vaqueros open WSC Gold Division play on Thursday with a home doubleheader vs. L.A. Pierce, starting at 1 p.m.
