SBCC gave first-place El Camino all it could handle on Friday night in Torrance before dropping a tough 3-2 men’s volleyball match. The scores were 22-25, 25-15, 25-23, 20-25, 15-5.
“The third set was pivotal,” said coach Armen Zakarian. “We were up 23-22 and they made a push for the last three points. We played a great match, serving and passing well except for the fifth set.”
Collin Cohen had 15 kills, Dakota Smith nine, Johnny Brand eight and Davis Grininger seven. El Camino improved to 8-5 and 5-1 in the opener of the second round of WSC play. The Warriors started the night tied for first with Long Beach and L.A. Pierce.
“We were in control the entire fourth set,“ Zakarian added. “They just came out on fire and took advantage of the home court in the final set.”
The Vaqueros will host L.A. Pierce on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
