Aquiles Montoya had a stellar match on Wednesday night as SBCC recorded its first WSC men’s volleyball win with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-23 victory at Santa Monica.
Montoya, a 6-6 sophomore middle blocker, had eight kills in eight swings for a perfect 1.000 percentage with eight blocks (five solo) and five digs. Dakota Smith also had eight kills and Johnny Brand added seven for the Vaqueros (4-7, 1-3).
Collin Cohen contributed five kills and five blocks while Davis Grininger had five kills, three blocks and hit .444.
“Our middles really stepped up,“ said coach Armen Zakarian. “We kept them out of system all night and prevented their middles from being a factor. We were down in the first two sets and found a way to come back and win.”
SBCC plays at Long Beach City on Friday at 6 p.m.
