Brett Patton took the individual title on Monday and SBCC claimed the championship of the North-South Invitational men’s golf tournament at Blacklake Golf Resort in Nipomo.
Patton, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, shot 71 at Monarch Dunes on Sunday and 72 at Blacklake for a 36-hole total of 1-over 143. Teammates Dodge Ward (70-76) and Joakim Flinck (75-71) finished in a four-way tie for second at 146.
Steven Lam (147) and Johnny Hogan (148) both shot 72 on Monday as SBCC turned in a season-best score for the third straight round. The Vaqueros shot 363 for a two-day total of 730 (20-over-par) that was 27 shots better than Monterey Peninsula in the seven-team field.
“We wanted to improve our score from the first round and it was nice to see so many guys near par,“ said coach Chuck Melendez. “We hope to see more consistency in the future. We played very well but I told the guys not to be satisfied with this.”
It was the second tournament title for the Vaqueros, who are 39-8 on the season.
The Vaqueros will play in WSC No. 5, a neutral-site tourney on Monday at Soule Park in Ojai at 10 a.m.
