Steven Lam fired a 3-under-par 69 Sunday on a difficult Marshallia Ranch Golf Course, leading SBCC to the top of the leader board after one round of the Santa Barbara Invitational.
Lam, a freshman from Hong Kong, shaved four strokes off his season best. Blake McPherson carded a 76 and Charlie Holyoke 77 for the Vaqueros, who shot 379 as team.
SBCC leads Ventura (396) by 17 shots in the five-team field.
“Marshallia is an extremely tough course and the wind was blowing up to 20 mph,“ said coach Chuck Melendez. “Steven played great and we played pretty well as a team.”
The final round will take place on Monday at La Purisima near Lompoc.
