FRESNO – Glen Scher shot a 6-under par 210 to lead UC Santa Barbara to a solid eighth-place finish at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic on Tuesday.
The Gauchos, as a team, logged a 1,092 which was several shots off the pace set by the tournament victor, Cal, which shot 1,037.
Scher finished tied for seventh with his outstanding 6-under par score.
Scher carded a 2-under par 70 in Tuesday’s final round. Earlier in the tourney, he shot a 4-under par 68 in round one and an even-par 72 in the second round. Gaucho junior Brett Silvernail logged a 3-under par 213 to finish tied for 13th in the tournament.
Sophomore Marshall Colby carded a 1-over par 217 to finish in a tie for 26th. Jordan Epstein (+7, 223), Tyler Smith (+13, 229), and Dominic Lingua (+20, 236), rounded out the Gaucho field.
The team title at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic was won by Cal, which shot a 1,037. The Golden Bears defeated the host Bulldogs by, count-em, 37 shots. Fresno State finished at 1,074. The individual winner was Cal’s Michael Kim who recorded a 16-under par 200.
UCSB returns to action at the Hornet Invitational at the Valley High Country Club in Elk Grove, Calif., on Mar. 11-12. The tourney is hosted by Sacramento State.
