Dos Pueblos running standout Bryan Fernandez tested himself against a fast field in the 1600 meters at the adidas Meet of Champions and established a personal best at the distance.
Fernandez, a CIF state champion in cross country and University of Oregon signee, ran 4:14.63 and placed sixth on the Azusa Pacific University track last Saturday. He finished one one-hundredth of a second behind Austin Tamagno of Brea Olinda.
Blake Haney of Stockdale, from the Central Section, won the event in 4:12.36. Garrett Corcoran of Villa Park came in second in 4:13.45, just edging out David Luna of Indio (4:13.47) and Omar Solis of Vista Murrieta (4:13.71).
The top nine finishers all ran in the same heat.
Fernandez and his Dos Pueblos teammates are competing at the Stanford Invitational this weekend.
