CBB: Shoemake, Vaqueros dent Glendale

Brendon Shoemake turned in a masterful eight innings on Tuesday night and Zach Zehner went 2-4 with three RBIs as SBCC upset Glendale 6-0 in a matchup of WSC baseball division leaders at Stengel Field.

Shoemake held the WSC South leaders, ranked No. 2 in Southern Cal, to six hits and struck out six in the nonconference game. Ryan Massengale came on with a runner on and no outs in the ninth and got the last three outs.

Zehner had an RBI triple in the sixth and a two-run single in the seventh when the Vaqueros scored twice to go ahead 5-0.

Steven Reveles went 2-3 for Santa Barbara (12-11), which shares the WSC North lead. It was the second straight win and sixth in eight games for SBCC, which posted its first shutout of the season.

Glendale (17-6) had its seven-game win streak snapped and lost for just the second time in 12 games.

“Any win is a good win but beating a quality opponent is always nice,” said SBCC coach Jeff Walker. “Shoemake gave us a big lift tonight. This is the best opponent we’ve played all year.“

The Vaqueros travel to No. 6 Riverside on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. game.
