Mark Jebbia tied Thursday’s game with an RBI single in the seventh and Jared Dinges delivered a two-out, go-ahead single that lifted SBCC past Hancock 6-5 in Santa Maria.
The Vaqueros (8-9, 2-2 WSC North) rallied from a 3-0 first-inning deficit, thanks to two hits apiece by Jebbia, Dinges, Steven Reveles and Tyler Sharpe. Sharpe started the two-out, two-run rally in the seventh with a double.
Brendon Shoemake turned in a solid pitching effort, going eight innings with 10 strikeouts and one walk. He gave up five runs (three earned) on nine hits.
Ryan Massengale pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
“Shoemake gave up three in the first, then settled down,” said coach Jeff Walker. “That was another outstanding starting effort for us. We fell behind early, then produced late. This was a great team win.”
Ventura leads the WSC North at 4-0, followed by SBCC, Hancock, Oxnard and Cuesta, all at 2-2.
The Vaqueros host Cuesta on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
