San Marcos’ boys volleyball team won 2-of-3 matches on Friday at the Redondo Union Tournament to qualify for Saturday’s Gold Division bracket.
The Royals defeated Long Beach Poly and Peninsula – both ranked teams in Division 2 – but lost to Orange Lutheran, the No. 9 team in Division 1.
“We thought our team really moved the ball around well,” said Royals head coach Roger Kuntz. “I’m really pleased with the way we’re starting this season.”
Shane Hauschild led San Marcos with 26 kills in the three best-of-three matches. Baker Johnson added 19. Christian Widmer totaled 65 assists for the day.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday.
