BSoc: Cate left out of CIF regional soccer draw

Cate School wasn’t selected as an at-large team in the CIF State Regional Division 3 boys soccer playoffs.

The draws for all three divisions for boys and girls were announced on Sunday.

The Rams, who went 15-3-2 and were eliminated in the CIF-SS Division 6 semifinals by Rialto-Carter, 3-2, were expecting to receive a regional berth. Athletic Director Wade Ransom said he applied for a berth after the team lost to Carter.

“We’re not really sure what is going on,” Ransom said in an email to Presidiosports. “We applied. We spoke to the president of the coaches’ association. Supposedly, the section office did not receive our application, despite the fact I personally confirmed via telephone on Wednesday.”

Chadwick of Palos Verdes, which lost in the other Division 6 semifinal against eventual champion Animo Leadership, was selected into the eight-team Division 3 regional draw. The Dolphins are 9-2-5. The other teams picked from the Southern Section were Division 6 champion Animo Leadership, Division 7 champion Lennox Academy (19-6-1) and runner-up Nuview Bridge (19-6-1).

Rounding out the field are San Diego Section champion Mater Dei Catholic, San Diego runner-up Carlsbad-Pacific Ridge, LA. City Section champion Sun Valley and Central Section champion Farmersville.

Ransom said he was trying to reach Paul Castillo at the CIF-SS, but he didn’t expect to talk to him until Monday morning.
