Nick Walker singled home Duncan Gordon and the winning run for Carpinteria’s baseball team on Friday as the Warriors defeated Villanova 7-6 for a Frontier League win.
Gordon led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a triple, scoring on a walk-off single by Walker. Gordon finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Walker also picked up the win on the mound after throwing four innings of relief. Only one of Villanova’s runs was earned as Carpinteria’s defense committed five errors.
“On the bright side, our defensive lapses did not carry over and we came back after each let down,” noted Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “We got big hits in tough spots throughout the game.”
Anthony Rodriguez, Marcus Hutchinson and David Olvera all recorded two hits each.
The Warriors (3-3, 2-0) move on to face Fillmore on Wednesday in another Frontier League contest.
