Santa Clara’s five-run sixth inning proved to be the difference in Thursday’s 10-5 Frontier League win for the Saints over visiting Carpinteria.
Santa Clara led 5-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning before adding on five more.
The Warriors scored three in the top of the seventh but it was too little too late. The decision snaps Carpinteria’s five-game winning streak.
Duncan Gordon produced two doubles for the Warriors, who host Nipomo on Friday. Haley Van Stein singled and scored to spark the three-run seventh.
Christian Torres pitched a complete game for Santa Clara and added a double at the plate.
Santa Clara improves to 2-3 in league play and drops Carpinteria to 4-1.
