Marcus Hutchinson found a groove and stayed there on Wednesday, much to the delight of Carpinteria’s baseball team in a 7-1 Frontier League victory over Santa Paula.
Hutchinson pitched a complete-game one hitter, allowing a single unearned run in the second inning. The senior struck out seven batters, walking one, while picking up his second win of the season.
It was the league opener for both teams.
The Warriors collected 13 hits on offense, featuring four players with multi-hit games. Anthony Rodriguez was the only Warrior with three hits, going 3-for-5 with a run and stolen base.
Joe Caudillo, David Olvera and Derrick Moore all had two hits. Duncan Gordon and Max Damron belted doubles for Carpinteria’s two extra-base hits.
The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and led 5-1 after three frames.
Carpinteria hosts Villanova in its next game on Friday.
