BB: Warriors first to sink unbeaten Sharks

Max Damron and the Carpinteria High baseball team shut out previously undefeated Malibu on Friday in a 4-0 Frontier League victory for the Warriors.

Damron struck out seven batters in a complete-game performance that head coach Pat Cooney called his best of the season.

Malibu was 9-0 overall and 4-0 in league play entering the game. The Sharks are Maxpreps’ No. 1 team in Division 6.

Now the Warriors, the No. 30 team in the same rankings, are alone in first place at 4-0 while Malibu falls to 4-1.

David Olvera’s two-run single in the second inning put the Warriors up 2-0. Carpinteria scored two more in the fifth, highlighted by a Kevin Stein double to right-center that scored Haley Van Stein.

Anthony Rodriguez recorded a multi-hit game with a stolen base and run scored.

The Warriors’ next game is another Frontier League contest on Thursday at Santa Clara.
