Marcus Hutchinson pitched a complete game and drove in a run in the sixth inning, helping Carpinteria post its first baseball win of the season, a 6-5 decision over visiting Cabrillo on Saturday.
Cabrillo won the first game of the doubleheader, 8-3.
“We have been playing Coach Johnny Osborne’s Conquistadores in a doubleheader on the second Saturday in March for the last 18 seasons,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “The day is one of our favorites each year. The split is a respectable result.”
Duncan Gordon drove in the game-winning run in the seventh, singling up the middle to bring home Max Damron from third base.
Hutchinson scattered five hits, allowed two earned runs and struck out six. At the plate, he was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.
Catcher Kevin Stein had a big day at the plate for the Warriors (1-3), going 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Max Damron was 2-3 with a RBI.
