San Marcos’ track & field teams came away with a handful of strong performances against Ventura in Thursday’s Channel League meet.
The Cougars won the boys competition 96-31 and the girls was 91-36.
Royals head coach Marilyn Hantgin said she was still excited for the improvement many of her athletes showed.
Senior Kaitlyn Kuehn set a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:19.69. Kuehn also placed third in the 800.
Charlotte Garratt’s time of 1:01.73 was a PR in the 400.
Freshman Olivia Jones was second in the 100 (13.25) and second in the 200 (27.43)
For the boys, Ryan Sorenson won the 3200. Joe Prince was second in the long jump and triple jump.
The Royals did well in the mile, claiming the second through sixth positions.
“We were really happy and excited for all the personal bests,” Hangtin said.
The Royals compete again this week at the 75th Easter Relays on Saturday.
