San Marcos swept the nine doubles sets, helping the Royals to a 13-5 non-league boys tennis win over Camarillo on Thursday.
It was the second straight match the Royals went 9-0 in doubles. They lost only 18 games against the Scorpions.
“Our serves and returns were more consistent today and our doubles teams were aggressive poaching and closing off the net,? San Marcos coach Jarrod Bradley said. ?We won a lot of free points today and that is how you’re supposed to play doubles.”
The winning teams were Owen Lincoln-Oliver Piltch, Jack Haley-Jake Wheelock and Zachary Bordofsky-Ramin Parvin.
In singles, Petar Jivkov and Luca Ferrari both went 2-1, losing only to Camarillo?s No. 1 player, lefty Corey Karen. Jivkov lost 6-3 and Ferrari was edged 7-5
“Luca actually broke Corey to tie the match at 5-5 and was up 40-15 on his serve. I’m really proud of how he adjusted his game and gave himself a chance to win. Ultimately, the hard serving lefty was able to close out the set with some critical volleys and big serves,? said Bradley
San Marcos (3-1) plays at West Ranch next Tuesday.
