L.A. Valley broke open a 2-1 contest with three runs in the fifth on Thursday and went on to beat visiting SBCC 5-2 in a nonconference softball game.
Natalie Orosco had an RBI double in the second and Amanda Caras added a run-scoring double in the seventh for the Vaqueros (2-7). Alex Abbott pitched a complete game and went 2-4 at the plate with a stolen base.
“We need to turn things around and start playing together,” said coach Paula Congleton. “We’ve really been beating ourselves lately.”
The Vaqueros had six hits and five errors on Thursday.
This weekend, they’ll be seeking their second straight title in the Golden West Invitational at Huntington Beach. They open on Friday against Southwestern (11 a.m.) and Pasadena (1 p.m.).
