The Junior Grizzlies won thier first ever tournament over the President’s Day Weekend

The 14U Santa Barbara Jr. Grizzlies won the first tournament that they have entered at the Camarillo President’s Day Super NIT. This is also the first Scout Team that is being run by Tom Myers of the Chicago Cubs.

In pool play, the Grizzlies won 14-2 over Agoura as Ashton Borgeson, Dylan Street and Matt Neal each contributed with key hits and defense. The team lost 3-2 to the Barons in the second seeding game. Entering the elimination round as the third seed, the Grizzlies rolled to wins of 10-0 over the Newbury Park Blaze and 7-1 over the Bruins.

In the Championship game, the Grizzlies got going in the first as Louie Shalhoob, DJ Sharpe, Josh Feldhaus and Ryan Guardino singled with one out. All of them would come around to score as the next 5 batters, Jordan Barbieri-Low, Bryce Quezada, Joe Firestone, Bijan Palme and Kyle Gonzalez got on with walks and an error. When the first inning was over the Grizzlies had an 8 – 0 lead. This proved to be plenty of support as Sharpe and Shalhoob each pitched well in the win. In the 3rd inning, the Grizzlies’ Wyatt Boyle singled to score Feldhaus. In the 5th, the Grizzlies scored on a Michael Moschitto fielder’s choice.

The team is based in Santa Barbara and will be adding other age groups starting in June. Contact [email protected] if you are interested in obtaining more information on the team and age groups being offered.
