SANTA BARBARA, CA, February 18, 2013 – River Valley Rovers Blue, a Boys U-12 independent club soccer team from Santa Barbara, played in the semi-final round of the Cal South State Cup Governors Division on Saturday.
The boys, led by coach Alonso Escamilla, beat the Santa Barbara Soccer Club Red team in the quarterfinals 7-1 and lost to Brentwood’s Westside Surf team in the semifinals 2-1 in overtime. Overall, the team won five games in the State Cup and lost two, its only other loss to the eventual tournament winner from San Diego.
The team’s success in the State Cup comes on the heels of winning the 2013 Real Copa Invitational tournament in Woodland Hills in January, being finalists in the 2012 Coast Soccer League Bronze Alpha division and the 2012 Simi Valley Labor Day Invitational, and winning the 2012 Downtown Santa Barbara Boys Club Spring League.
RVR Blue is having open try-outs for the Winter/Spring season 2013.
