SBCC dropped a tough five-set match to host Palomar on Saturday morning, then came back and swept San Diego City 3-0 at the Palomar Tourney in San Diego County.
Johnny Brand had seven kills and seven digs in the 17-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 15-11 setback to Palomar. Nick May and Dakota Smith also had seven kills.
“We pressed a little too hard,” said coach Armen Zakarian. “They were pretty comfortable on their home court and dug a lot of balls. That frustrated us a little bit.”
In the afternoon match, SBCC (3-3) swept San Diego City 25-20, 25-22, 25-22. Smith had 10 kills, Chris Utroske nine and Steve Tinen five. Jarred Lincoln had five digs and Drew Hogan dished out 29 assists.
Utroske had three of his team’s 11 blocks and Davis Grininger added two.
The Vaqueros host San Diego Mesa on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
