Golden West swept past SBCC 25-14, 25-17, 25-19 on Wednesday in a nonconference men’s volleyball match at Huntington Beach.
“We started slow and didn’t play our best,” said Vaquero coach Armen Zakarian. “They’re one of the top teams in the state. They outserved us and outpassed us. We ran into an offense we weren’t prepared for.”
Johnny Brand led the Vaqueros (2-2) with eight kills and Aquiles Montoya had six kills and hit .545. Brock Skriloff and Dakota Smith added four kills apiece.
Drew Hogan had 24 assists and three aces. Jarred Lincoln played his best match of the year, according to Zakarian. “He passed lights out and also had 10 digs in three sets.”
The Vaqueros will play a doubleheader on Saturday at Palomar. They’ll take on Palomar at 10 a.m. and San Diego City at 2 p.m.
