Outside hitter Johnny Brand recorded 19 kills and three aces on Sunday as SBCC downed Grossmont 3-1 in a men’s volleyball match at L.A. Pierce. The scores were 25-18, 28-30, 25-14, 25-23.
The Vaqueros (2-1) hit .301 to post their second win in three days.
Dakota Smith added 10 kills and two aces and Collin Cohen and Aquiles Montoya had eight kills apiece. Setter Drew Hogan notched 45 assists, five kills and two aces. Jarred Lincoln played strong defense with 11 digs and passed consistently well.
“It was a good team effort against a solid Grossmont team,” said third-year coach Armen Zakarian. “We’re winning the serving and passing game right now.”
The Vaqueros travel to Huntington Beach on Wednesday to take on Golden West at 6 p.m.
