Westmont’s men’s basketball team dominated the paint on Tuesday and turned back The Master’s 63-54 in a GSAC game on the Warriors’ floor.
The result improves Westmont to 10-1 in conference while the Mustangs fall to 3-8. It’s the first time Westmont has ever been 10-1 in GSAC play in the conference’s 27-year history.
The Warriors outscored the Mustangs 40-12 in the paint and won the rebound battle 41-34.
CJ Miller just missed a double double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Preston Branson scored a team-high 21 points.
The Master’s was hindered by collectively only making 34 percent of its shots.
Westmont also struggled shooting but overcame a night in which it missed 12 free throws.
NOTES: The Warriors (21-4) remained at No. 6 in the country in the NAIA rankings released earlier on Tuesday. Their next game is Thursday against No. 7 CSU San Marcos. Westmont’s last six wins have all been by 11 points or less.
