San Marcos stayed in the Channel League title hunt with a 2-0 victory at Ventura on Thursday.
Olivia Jones scored in the run of play and Hannah Harrah converted a penalty kick for her first goal of the season. Harrah, who plays goalkeeper, was relieved of her duties in the second half by Hannah Ball and played in the field.
“We did what we had to do,” San Marcos coach Macie Berlin said.
The win moves the Royals to 3-1-2 (11 points), one point behind second-place Santa Barbara in the standings and three behind first-place Buena. They play the Dons on Tuesday.
