For the Dos Pueblos girls soccer team, it was all about going forward in Tuesday’s CIF Division 2 wild-card playoff match against Simi Valley.
The Chargers attacked from the opening kickoff, scored three goals in the first half and then held off a late rally by the Pioneers to come away with a 3-2 victory at Scott O’Leary Stadium.
The win advances DP into a first-round matchup at Mira Costa on Thursday. The Chargers lost to the Mustangs two years ago in the playoffs.
DP’s pressure created an own goal by Simi Valley. On an attempting to clear a corner kick, the goalkeeper punched the ball and it deflected off a defender and into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Megan Gee made it 2-0 when she jumped on a loose ball in front of the net and scored.
Rachel Smith scored the third goal just before halftime.
Simi Valley pushed everyone forward in the last 10 minutes and scored two goals. But DP was able to hang on and keep going forward.
