Sydney Hedges poured in 18 points in the first quarter and finished with 40 to power the Providence Hall girls basketball team to a 64-29 win over Crossroads Christian in a CIF Division 6 second-round playoff game on Saturday at Cate.
The Lions (16-5), CIF finalists last year, will host Joshua Springs in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday at a site to be determined.
Hedges was dominating on Saturday. She made 15 of 20 shots and 10 of 16 free throws. She also had eight steals and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Her scoring helped Providence Hall roar to a 26-4 lead in the first quarter. The Lions continued to score at will and led 42-14 at halftime.
Lacey Gonzalez chipped in 13 points with 6 assists.
